C2C Hosts LinkedIn Workshop and Networking Event

Committed to Charleston (C2C) was founded in 2013 as the first ever student giving organization on campus. Last year more than $15,000 was raised for student scholarships thanks to student donations and Johnnie Baxley ’92 giving a match gift of $10,000. C2C aims to help build strong connections within our campus and within our alumni community so to strengthen the overall College of Charleston Network.

On Tuesday, March 15, 2016, C2C hosted a LinkedIn Workshop and Networking with Alumni Event in collaboration with Alumni Career Services and Alumni Affairs. Erin O’Dea, Assistant Director of Alumni Career Services presented to more than 30 students a LinkedIn workshop. O’Dea provided students with the tips on how to introduce themselves and present themselves through a professional online network, such as LinkedIn.

A panel of alumni gave students their top networking tips and advice. The panel included: Johnnie W. Baxley, III ’92 and Stacey L. Bailey ‘08. These alumni shared insight on their experience in their specific career field and gave their top 5 networking tips. Baxley advised, “Remember you are always marketing and selling yourself. You have no idea when that can happen. Always act in a way that you can be proud of what people see.” Bailey stated, “I like to think of networking especially in relationships, as the long game versus the short game. You’re trying to cultivate and nurture these relationships. Eventually you will start to form these relationships and they will want to connect with you.” The students then went on to participate networking session with other local alumni to practice what they just learned. The other alumni networkers included: April Adams ’11, Justin Gaeta ’09, Taylor Kemp ’05, Ryan Morris ’08 and Brad Rustin ’75.

The College of Charleston’s BOUNDLESS campaign has reached and surpassed its $125 million goal. The campaign, which is the largest fundraising and engagement initiative in the College’s 246-year history, has raised more than $127 million since the beginning of its effort in October 2009.

“It’s an amazing achievement and an important milestone,” President Glenn F. McConnell ’69 said at the campaign announcement on Feb. 12, 2016, held at Alumni Hall. “Of the nearly 23,000 investors that have helped us reach this goal, their impact is realized in areas such as our academic and athletics programs, scholarships, faculty positions, capital projects and student opportunities. Our donors understand the value of a College of Charleston education and have expressed their vote of confidence through their giving. Campaigns like ours are about strengthening both our present needs while also laying a strong foundation for the future.”

The campaign, which will support the next era of distinction and educational excellence at the College, culminates on June 30, 2016.
